I went into this movie expecting to hate it and, for the most part, I did.

Greetings Ruben,

No insult intended. But once again it's pretty sad that "perception" overides "facts". Mom (Angela Bassett) is a "working nurse" not an "unemployed widow". And while the youngest brother is obviously making poor choices, A "gangbanger" he is not. One amazing "fact" this movie does display is that although poverty does exist in the inner city. Love, hope, intelligence and support is more rampant than present media portrays!

You're right. She is a nurse. I corrected the error in the article, but my points are very much the same. However, regarding the younger son, he is for all intents and purposes a gangbanger. Maybe he's not a very committed gangbanger, and maybe he grows a conscience, but he doesn't spend those many absent hours doing homework. Again, however, the semantic distinction over whether he is a gangbanger or, say, an aspiring gangbanger, is immaterial to the rest of the film's observed flaws.

Thanks for the correction regarding the mother, however. I've modified the text accordingly.
